Enabling disabled people’s ambitions

Every day at the Richard Whitehead Foundation, we hear the barriers disabled people face accessing sport, but also see the impact that the power of sport can have on their lives when barriers are broken down.  

Our mission

We believe disabled people should have equal access to the life-changing power of sport.

Our purpose

‘We place the individual at the centre of our work. We provide access to life-changing support, mentoring, information, advice, equipment and opportunities that will spark a sustained lifetime intervention.’

Whether through one of our innovative community projects, or in the tailored support we offer individuals, we put the person at the centre of our work.

We are first and foremost an organisation for the disability community. Sport is the tool we use to improve lives. It is about the individuals and their stories, overcoming their challenges with them and helping them to achieve their goals through sport. We place the individual at the centre of our work, providing life-changing support, mentoring, information, advice, equipment and opportunities. We are also ensuring that we develop or influence larger scale programmes available to ensure that we leave no one behind.  

We listen and learn, and we are passionate about sharing our beneficiaries’ stories and our hope and aspiration is that we inspire and create positive experiences for disabled people that ensure they can access the power of sport through a sustained lifelong intervention.
